Surface Matters: CCP’s 2018 Members’ Show

December 9, 2018 through January 27, 2019

Opening Reception Sunday, December 9th from 2-4 PM in the Grace Ross Shanley Gallery at CCP

Over the years, all sorts of ephemera surround us in our lives. It builds and swirls around us. Some is useful, some valuable, some lost, some discarded, but there is no shortage of materials to encounter requiring the dedication of our time and mental space to determining where that place is that it fits or doesn’t fit in our lives.

For our annual Members’ Show, members are asked to take a second look around at the materials around them, to the things that come unrequested, unexpectedly, and typically discarded – and find a way to integrate at least one found piece into the surface of a print. The material (whether paper or otherwise) isn’t required to be the entirety of the print substrate, but should be adhered or incorporated in such a way so it is printed upon.

The goal of this prompt is to see imaginative works putting the castaway, discarded, and otherwise ignored but repurposed materials to good use.
