MONOTHON Press Assistants
Hone your print skills as a MONOTHON Press Assistant! Every year the Center for Contemporary Printmaking invites artists and master printers to collaborate on new work during “MONOTHON Print Week,” our annual printmaking fundraiser! Over 60 artists sign up to participate, and we are looking for talented, enthusiastic printers to collaborate with them in our three fully-equipped print studios. The goal is simple: create as many monotype prints as you can during your session before time runs out!
Past Master Printers have hailed from shops such as 10 Grand Press, Wingate Studio, UCONN, Columbia University, Manhattan Graphics Center, and more.
How it works:
Artists sign up with CCP for the MONOTHON session(s) of their choice. Each artist or artist pair is assigned to a Master Printer, and they team up with the help of a Press Assistant to create a series of prints over a 5 hour period. All materials are included. At the conclusion of the session, CCP’s Executive Director selects one print from each artist to include in our November Fundraiser Auction & Party. The rest of the work is kept by the artists.
In addition to regular artist sessions, CCP needs press assistants for our Youth MONOTHON print day for artists aged 11-18. Printers collaborate with this next generation of artists over an energetic day where everyone works together in our upstairs studio. Pizza provided for all!
Volunteer Press Assistant Role:
The role involves assisting artists under the direction of the Master Printer, keeping surfaces and materials clean, and maintaining a positive, cooperative attitude at the press station. For additional information, contact us at 203-899-7999.
Press Assistants receive:
- One free ticket to CCP’s Auction & Party (complimentary food, drink, music, fun!)
- Complimentary meals and snacks during their print session(s).
- Hands-on experience working with directly with artists and printers in a fine art print shop
- Opportunities to network with artists and other print professionals in the field
Why we do it:
MONOTHON has been CCP’s largest annual fundraiser for 26 years, and as a nonprofit, this determines our material budget for the following year. This budget supplements our various programs which serve local youth, the public, and all levels of printmakers. The more we can raise, the more we can do! The printers who sign up to participate in our MONOTHON sessions are helping to ensure the future of CCP, an invaluable service for which we are so grateful.

- Youth MONOTHON Print Day: Sunday, October 4, 10 am- 3 pm
