Punchy colors, lines, shapes, stripes, dots, spirals, grids – they’re the building blocks of compositions and more complex subjects that give form to ideas. In this exhibition 12 artists delight us with a vibrant kaleidoscope of restless technicolor abstractions, making use of the printmaking processes of woodcut, etching, lithography,and combinations thereof. These prints demonstrate different approaches taken by a wide-ranging group of artists as they explore the ideas of abstraction and patterning, transforming them in unique ways while maintaining a restriction of using these isolated compositional elements as subject.
On approach, viewers will be captivated by the carnival of colors at play before them, but a close examination will yield a greater awareness of the details that make these prints so compelling, whether through integrating collage, cut-outs, pearlescent inks, or the transfixing interplay between overlapping layers of colors.
