Perspectives: Celebrating 250 Years of Democracy

September 13, 2026 – November 8, 2026

Revolutionary Prints: Boston Printmakers Celebrate America

OPENING RECEPTION: Sunday, September 13, 2026, 2-4 PM

The Boston Printmakers present Perspectives: Celebrating 250 Years of Democracy / Revolutionary Prints: Boston Printmakers Celebrate America, a members-only, non-juried exhibition marking 250 years since American independence. This timely exhibition brings together new prints by Boston Printmakers members that reflect on the nation’s past, interrogate its present, and imagine its future through the democratic and historically resonant medium of printmaking.

Rooted in New England’s pivotal role in the founding of the United States, the exhibition highlights regional and national perspectives on American history and identity. Printmaking’s inherent accessibility, multiplicity, and power to disseminate ideas make it a compelling vehicle for commemorating this milestone. Collectively, the works on view form a visual record of how contemporary artists respond to the ideals, contradictions, and evolving narratives embedded in 250 years of democracy.

Artists engage a wide range of thematic approaches, including revolutionary heritage and overlooked histories; landscape and environment as sites of memory and change; community and identity shaped by migration, indigeneity, and place; liberty and civic life from early town meetings to present-day movements; innovation and progress across centuries; and forward-looking visions that imagine the next 250 years of American society. The exhibition showcases the technical excellence and creative diversity of The Boston Printmakers, with works spanning relief, intaglio, lithography, screen printing, monotype, digital, and experimental processes.

Together, these prints invite reflection, dialogue, and critical engagement, offering multiple perspectives on what democracy means through the eyes of contemporary printmakers.
