Workshop Description: Cyanotype is an eco-friendly, non-toxic, iron-based photographic process which yields a deep blue color. In this workshop, we will use UV light to explore the traditional cyanotype method using found objects, natural materials and/or negatives (film or digital). We will also experiment with the wet cyanotype method which produces unexpected and surprising results. Coating methods, chemistry safety and history will all be discussed while still allowing time for exploration of the process. A survey of work by artists who have used this process creatively will provide inspiration. All levels welcome.
Workshop Location: Upstairs Studio – No Elevator

Bruce Dunbar is a visual artist working in the expanded field of photography. His work moves between lens based and cameraless to explore the natural world and the nature of light sensitive materials. He frequently works across processes and combines different methods from analog to digital to alternative. His work with combining photographic processes and mixed media is an attempt at capturing an impression, an inescapable essence of what once was, the invisible force through which matter changes- the state of flux in which all organic matter is caught.
Mr. Dunbar holds a BS from Boston University, a MA in Photography from New York University and a MFA in Visual Art (Photography) from Lesley University. He has been a photography instructor, teaching traditional, alternative, experimental and digital photography courses at the Silvermine School of Art in New Canaan, CT since 1998. In 2012, Mr. Dunbar became an adjunct professor of Photography at Western Connecticut State University. He has also conducted numerous photography workshops at local arts organizations.
His photographs and mixed media photography have been exhibited in numerous group and solo shows in Connecticut and New York City including the Lockwood Mathews Mansion Museum, Katonah Museum, CJG Projects and Chroma Fine Art Gallery.
