The Center for Contemporary Printmaking invites you to participate in MONOTHON 2021!
Each year the Center for Contemporary Printmaking hosts MONOTHON: a two-part celebration of monotype printmaking and CCP’s largest fundraising effort. Now in its twenty-second year, MONOTHON kicks off September 21, opening our schedule to artists booking 5 hour intensive monotype printing sessions through October 16. A selection of prints created during the printing sessions will then be included in our Online Auction via GiveSmart scheduled for November 17-20.
MONOTHON2021 provides the opportunity for artists to work with a Master Printer in an art-intensive, five-hour session to create original monotypes. Each MONOTHON artist is assisted by a Master Printer during a private or semi-private session in one of CCP’s three studios. All materials are provided; artists may create up to ten prints during each session. We cannot accommodate requests to work with specific printers.
At the end of a session, one print from each artist is selected for CCP’s Online Auction. The artist retains their remaining prints. Prints chosen for exhibition and sale become the property of CCP. The selected print from each artist will be on display in CCP’s Grace Ross Shanley Gallery during the Auction Preview and then for sale during the Online Auction.
Monday – Saturday, September 21 – October 16
10 AM – 4 PM with one hour for lunch (brown bag lunch)
All sessions are private unless you register with a second artist.
Artists participating in a Monothon printmaking session receive:
• Up to 10 sheets of high-quality paper
• Inks, knives, palettes, plates, rollers, brushes, solvents, and paper towels
• The expertise and assistance of a Master Printer (Due to COVID
restrictions, Press Assistants are not available for 2021.)
$300/session – private session with one artist/one printer
$250/artist – dual session with two artists/one printer*
Two day consecutive sessions are available, please contact CCP to schedule.
*If you do not have an artist to partner with and would like CCP to match you with another artist, please indicate on regisration form.
Artist Sponsors give the gift of a professional printmaking experience to an artist who otherwise might not be able to participate in MONOTHON2021. Sponsorships may be for an identified artist or left open for CCP to match with an artist needing a sponsorship in order to take part. Sponsorship contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Although Press Assistants will not be included during the printmaking sessions this year, CCP continues to welcome volunteer applications.

Auction opens November 17th at 12 AM and closes November 20th at 5 PM
One or two 18” x 24” matricies
$100 for one, $150 for two matricies
This option provides the opportunity to create new work for MONOTHON2021 remotely. Gum Arabic Monotype is a technique in which an artist can work with watercolor and/or water soluble drawing materials which are then transferred to dampened paper through a printing press. Registrants choosing this option will receive a prepared matrix in a reusable shipping container with the expectation that an image will be created at home, then shipped via container to CCP for printing.
