"I create work that reacts to our times. The Trump presidency has further pushed me into being an activist artist, this has led to greater involvement with creating work that speaks to the injustice in society.
In my studio practice I have been creating fences and cages which reference the current situation at the border.

I lived near Sandy Hook Elementary School during the time of the shooting. Since then I have advocated for gun control and continue to create work out of spent shotgun shells in order to start a dialogue on this important subject. To this end I donate a percentage of all sold work to organizations that work for gun control.

In the past year I began creating cyanotypes which explore our current covid times and BLM protests. I seem to move back and forth between all these many themes creating installations and prints which many times reference several different pressing issues of our day." - Margaret Roleke
