Mary Louise Long has exhibited her paintings and prints in galleries, universities, and museums. The artist had a solo show of her monotypes at the Montclair Art Museum, Montclair, NJ, where she also taught painting and printmaking. She attended Boston University, American University, and has a graduate degree in printmaking from Montclair State University. Recently her work was included in the Monotype Guild of New England’s National exhibition at The Art Complex Museum in Duxbury, MA. Her work is represented in numerous private and public collections.

Brilliant colors and powerful forms are central to Ms. Long’s work. Ancient myths and legends contribute to its formation. Often related to forms found in the natural world, the abstract work is dependent on process and painterly markings for creating that visual awareness of content.

The artist states “The human condition is of utmost importance… I search for that subjective shape that stirs the viewer to bouts of recognition and denial. The content of these monotypes is the merge of the subjective and objective intellect.”
