Day one will be an immersion in the Japanese art of Suminagashi marbling. Participants will begin by creating beautiful floating images on water to be transferred to paper and then use the techniques to create a silk scarf. On day two, students will explore watercolor marbling on paper and learn how to create the delicate combed patterns that have adorned books and been framed as art for centuries. Each day’s activities are open to beginners as well as people wishing to take a refresher course or simply coming to amass a selection of papers to use in book binding or other art projects.
