Discover how printing was done from the middle of the 15th century until well into the 19th in this introductory workshop into Letterpress Printmaking. In this hands-on session, participants will learn about the history and technology of moveable type and set type themselves. Using both lead and wood type, you will be working on an original Vandercook number 4 printing press to create your edition. You will learn proper registration, setting and inking of the type to create multiples in an edition onto paper of your choosing. Participants will need to bring an existing print or printed substrate on which to print.

ECKHARD FROESCHLIN has been a freelance letterpress printer since 1980 specializing in letterpress and etching. His work has been recognized globally, appearing in the Frankfurt Book Fair, Book and Hand Press Fair in Frauenfeld Germany, Book Fair San Francisco and many more. Both his personal works and his curated Artist Books have been recognized and exhibited in libraries and museums in both Germany and the USA. Edition Schwarze Seite has been operated solely by Eckhard Froeschlin since 2012 in Scheer, Germany. It is an original hand letterpress studio in which books and portfolios are curated and printed by Froeschlin himself in lead type and with original print graphics.
